The Prima II, on both sides of the Mediterranean
From the winter mists of Germany, where it has been taking part in a series of dynamic tests since July, to the sunshine of Morocco, where it was presented at the end of 2009, the Prima is out in all weathers.
On the test loop at Wildenrath (Germany), the prototype of the Prima II locomotive has been undergoing an intensive testing programme (traction, braking, acoustics, wheel-rail contact and electromagnetic disturbances) for nearly six months now, and it has already covered almost 15,000 kilometres. Upon completion of this test campaign end February 2010, the Prima II will undergo certification in Germany and France, followed by Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland in 2011.
At the same time, on 27 November and 8 December 2009, on the occasion of the inauguration of the modernised stations at Fes and Meknes by King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan Railways (Office National des Chemins de Fer marocains or ONCF) presented to the press the first of the 20 Prima II electric locomotives ordered from Alstom by the ONCF in October 2007. The ONCF Prima II will run at a speed of 120 km/h on the entire Moroccan network for freight operations, and at a speed of 160 km/h for passenger transportation.
